Henrik Lundqvist in Men's Health Magazine

ShareThis

Given that he's often buried beneath a uniform, mask, and pads, you wouldn't necessarily know Henrik Lundqvist as a clotheshorse. But catch him off the ice and he's liable to be wearing fitted black jeans, a camel blazer, and tan suede shoes. "Teammates will ask me where I'm going," says last year's winner of the Vezina Trophy, an honor distinguishing him as the NHL's best goaltender. "I'm not going anywhere. This is the way I dress."

To pass the time in an off-season extended by the NHL lockout, Lundqvist plays tennis, working many of the same muscles he uses in hockey—and he wears sleek clothes he's not embarrassed to walk home in afterward. "Just because they're going to the gym, a lot of guys wear old T-shirts that look like they've been lying in the closet for 15 years," Lundqvist says. That's not him. "My workout clothes have to work."

Flexible fabrics and wicking properties help him keep up with his game. And as for the look, Lundqvist favors simple designs and minimal branding. "You can mix in color every once in a while, but I like to keep it clean." Go on, upgrade your gym clothes: Consider it a subtle sartorial power play.

  1. Found a website that says you have a goalie camp in NY for ages 7-15. Will you be doing it this year?
